Rochester Choral Society Autumn Concert 2021
20th November 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm
£15This programme of music by modern English and Belgian composers was planned to commemorate 75 years since the end of World War II. After a 2 year break due to the more recent war against Covid-19, Rochester Choral Society and King’s Brass, under the baton of John Mountford, are ready to welcome back concert audiences with an appropriate fanfare: the Entrata Festiva for Organ, Brass and Timpani by Flor Peeters (1903 – 1986). Composed during the final year of World War II, Joseph Jongen’s Mass for Choir, Organ and Brass is a restlessly contemplative work whose shifting harmonies reflect the uncertainties of that era. It is brightened by energetic flourishes from the brass ensemble and ends with a tranquil plea for peace. In complete contrast, The Sprig of Thyme by John Rutter (born 1945) is a nostalgic collection of folk songs of the British Isles. His fresh arrangements breathe new life into these timeless songs of life and love, showing the power of music to unite people emotionally.
