East Malling Singers Christmas Concert 2021
Bob Chilcott “Christmas Oratorio”
Saturday 11th December 7:30pm, St James the Great Church, East Malling ME19 6AH
Having worked on the Christmas Oratorio during the September workshop, we will be including it in our Christmas concert and are delighted that Tom Robson (Tenor) will be singing the part of the Evangelist.
There will still be opportunities to sing your favourite carols once more as well as join in with some of the new carols in the Christmas Oratorio and, of course, enjoy the hot mince pies and mulled wine during the interval – an EMS Christmas concert would not be the same without them!
Bob Chilcott, described by The Observer as “a contemporary hero of British Choral Music”, is one of the most widely performed composers of choral music in the world. His Christmas Oratorio was premièred in August 2019 at Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester.
He writes: “It has been a privilege to be able to write a piece involving a story told through biblical texts and verse in English that I know so well through my life as both a singer and composer writing within the tradition of church music here in this country. The setting of the Christmas Oratorio uses words from the Gospels of St Luke and St Matthew intertwined with poetry from the 16th to the 19th centuries to create a compelling retelling of the Christmas story. The role of the choir is to enrich the Evangelist’s narrative, support the performance of the audience hymns, and take centre stage in two poignant unaccompanied movements.”
Tickets £12, concessions £10, school children free – firstname.lastname@example.org or 01622 750943
